Darwin's Marine Industry an Important Link
On the 21 - 23 June 2017, the annual Australian Coasts and Ports Conference was held at the Cairns Convention Centre with the topic of 'working with nature'. This conference is the predominant forum in the Australasian region for professionals to meet and discuss multi-disciplinary issues related to coats and ports.
The event saw over 400 Australian, New Zealand and International delegates coming together to conduct over 200 sessions outlining the challenges and achievements of the Marine Industry. The conference looked in detail at issues around storm and tide action, port planning, dredging , shoreline protection, coastal structures and new marine monitoring and IT systems.
The conference highlighted that Australian ports and regulatory bodies responsible for coastal areas are looking at ways to manage and improve existing assets and the development of new facilities, taking into consideration environmental impacts.
The Land Development Corporation presented a session on current infrastructure and future projects in Darwin Harbour featuring a case study on the development of the Marine Industry Park and new Multi User Barge Ramp facility.
