Kilgariff entrance statement

Kilgariff entrance statement

Local Alice Springs architects, Sue Dugdale and Associates, have been nominated for an NT Architecture Award for their design of the Kilgariff entry statement and graphic fence.

The entry statement and graphic fence provide precinct identity to the new suburb of Kilgariff in Alice Springs. The super-scale graphic of the fence and entry signage is a representation of the endemic bush passionfruit which was chosen for its atheistic quality and relationship with place and Indigenous culture.

The graphic fence and entry statement are designed to be appreciated by pedestrians and residents living in the suburb as well as from those travelling at speed on the highway. The new suburb and its fence are the first impression of Alice Springs for those entering from the south on the Stuart Highway or from the airport.

To vote for the people choice award head to the NT Architecture Awards website.

This is stage 1 of the fence. Two further stages continuing the pattern have been documented and are planned for construction.
