Milestone for Truck Central

Milestone for Truck Central

The Truck Central project has reached another milestone with the installation of major drainage culverts associated with the new access road from the intersection of Wishart and Kirkland Roads.

Concrete pouring to the downstream side of the four cell culverts occurred on 1 December. Completion of the culvert installation prior to the 2017/18 Wet Season will allow for works to convert the existing three way intersection into a four way intersection, early in the 2018 Dry Season. Internal subdivision works are progressing with sewer installation ahead of schedule and electrical works to commence during the second week of December.

The project will incorporate a road house, driver rest/fatigue management facilities, a large road train assembly area, a heavy vehicle inspection facility and 22 industrial lots for sale and development. The industrial lots are expected to attract transport related businesses including regional distribution centres, truck sales, transport depots and contractor yards, supported by a range of vehicle maintenance activities such as inspection centres, tyre, mechanical and body repairs.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has secured $9.65M of Australian Government funding via the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Programme to upgrade the assembly area and to establish the new heavy vehicle inspection facility at Truck Central.
