Rock oyster on trial

With the support of the Northern Territory Government, the Darwin Aquaculture Centre has successfully bred 12,000 Black Lip Rock Oysters which will be exported to remote communities for future breeding programs.

Pirlangimpi, on the Tiwi Islands, was fortunate enough to receive 4,000 oysters to continue their breeding program creating ongoing local jobs and providing business opportunities for Indigenous people.

The Land Development Corporation has worked with the Tiwi Land Council to secure areas of land suitable for Aquaculture opportunities, both sea based and land based.
