STREET NAME INTERPRETIVE SIGNS

Ankerre Park Opening

With the opening of Ankerre Park in Kilgariff Estate we also unveiled our new interpretation signs. The park is named Ankerre – the Arrente word for Coolibah Tree in honour of recognising the connection to country and language. The street names in the Coolibah Release were also named using Arrente words for flora and furan.

LDC has worked closely with the Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation, as representatives for the Arrente people. To integrate the Arrente people’s cultural connection to the land in the latest release, through street and park naming and these park signs.

There are currently 6 signs located around Ankerre Park explaining the meaning of each street name and its translation into Arrente.

In working with Reconciliation Australia and local Aboriginal organisations LDC is continuing to look at ways to incorporate the traditional cultures where it can on the land we are developing.

If you visit the park make sure to take a walk around and learn more about the Arrente language.
